Traffic Changes
Eastbound Trans-Canada Highway Shifted to Westbound Carriageway
Both eastbound lanes for the Trans-Canada Highway, between Old Banff Coach Road and Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W., have been shifted north to the westbound carriageway. This detour will allow the ultimate eastbound lanes to be constructed.
Overview
About five kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), west of Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W., is being reconstructed as part of this project. The steep grades on this section of road reduce visibility and make winter travel difficult during icy conditions, particularly for large trucks transporting goods. The improvements include adjusting the elevation to reduce the steep grades and widening to four lanes in each direction.
