Seatbelts Really Do Save Lives
Wearing a seatbelt is one of the most effective ways drivers and passengers can protect themselves in the event of a collision. Alberta’s Traffic Safety Plan indicates that unbelted vehicle occupants involved in collisions are three times more likely to die or suffer injury.
Seatbelts were originally designed to keep horse-carriage occupants safe in New York taxis in the late 1800s and were then introduced to car racing in the 1950s, but seatbelts didn’t become a regular part of vehicle manufacturing until the mid-1970s.
Roughly 93 per cent of Canadians report wearing seatbelts regularly and the seven per cent that don’t buckle up account for almost 40 per cent of collision fatalities. Seatbelts save lives – over 1000 every year in Canada alone.

Temporary Pathway and Parking Lot Closures in Bowness Park: April 6 – 20, 2020
As part of the Bow River Bridge twinning project, an in-river berm is required on the south shore of the Bow River. This work is only permitted during specific time periods set out by the Water Act to avoid impacts to fish and fish habitat and protect fall and winter spawning species. Construction vehicles will be frequently accessing the site, so to complete the work safely in the limited time, there will be no vehicle access to Bowness Park from April 6 to 20, 2020.
During this time, the pathway west of Stoney Trail, connecting Valley Ridge and Bowness Park, will be fully closed with no detour available and no access to the pedestrian bridge to or from the west. Bowness Park will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists east of Stoney Trail and access to the pedestrian bridge to and from the east will remain open.
