April 6 – 20, 2020 – No vehicle access to Bowness Park and pathway closures

There will be no vehicle access to Bowness Park from April 6 – 20, 2020, including the parking lot. A flag person will direct traffic on 48 Avenue SW. Construction vehicles will use 85 Street NW and 48 Avenue NW to access the site. Residents should expect minor noise and traffic disruptions throughout the duration of this work.

The pathway west of Stoney Trail connecting Valley Ridge and Bowness Park will also be fully closed with no detour available and no access to the pedestrian bridge to or from the west. Bowness Park will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists east of Stoney Trail and access to the pedestrian bridge to and from the east will remain open.

An in-river berm is needed for bridge pier construction as part of the Bow River Bridge twinning project. In-river work in only permitted April 6 – 30; this closure is to accommodate the large volume of construction vehicles hauling material into the site to construct the berm within the allowable time. Construction crews will be accessing the park around the clock in order to complete construction within the timeframe allotted. This may include delivering materials overnight.

All in-river work is in accordance with the Restricted Access Period outlined in the Water Act to avoid impacts to fish and fish habitat and protect fall and winter spawning species.

Some park amenities will be closed during this time, please check calgary.ca/bowness for more details.
