Project Update – January 24, 2022
What’s Happening in Traffic This Week
Expect delays on Highway 8
This year there will be significant construction activity on the Highway 8 / Stoney Trail interchange and surrounding area for associated work, including stormwater and utility infrastructure.
Drivers should expect construction traffic turning on and off the highway as well as intermittent stops at the crossing. The signalized construction crossing will be person-operated and used as needed during work hours. Traffic will be monitored when the crossing is in use to minimize delays.
Ramp Open: Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. / 109 Street S.W. to Eastbound Trans-Canada Highway
This weekend the ramp from Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. / 109 Street S.W. to eastbound Trans-Canada Highway opened, marking another milestone for the North project.
Please drive courteously while everyone adjusts to the new road configuration, especially in the weaving area where drivers are trying to exit to northbound Stoney Trail and merge onto eastbound Trans-Canada Highway.
Reminder: Stoney Tail Reduced to One Lane Nightly
From 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. each night until Saturday, February 5, 2022, Stoney Trail will be reduced to one lane in each direction to transport large pieces of equipment from the bridge construction site on the north side of the Bow River to the site on the south side.
All work is weather dependant. Please check 511 Albertaand The City of Calgary’s traffic information map for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions. For all other project information, please visit westringroad.ca.
We appreciate your patience during construction.

Old Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. Bridge Demolished
With traffic shifted to the new lanes east of the previous interchange, the obsolete Trans-Canada Highway bridge over Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. has been removed.
Girders Going Up
Like an overlooked middle child, girder installation has quietly begun on the Bow Trail S.W. interchange.
Highway 8 Bridge Abutments
Piling on the east abutments is complete and formwork is being installed. Piling for the west abutments is underway.
