Slopeview Drive S.W. Community Access via Lower Springbank Road S.W. Closed June 1, 2021

Construction for the West Calgary Ring Road – South project (Old Banff Coach Road S.W. to Highway 8) is underway. Lower Springbank Road S.W., between Slopeview Drive S.W. and 101 Street S.W., will be permanently closed as of June 1, 2021. A paved service road between 85 Street S.W. and Slopeview Drive S.W. will be constructed this summer and will provide emergency access to the Slopes.

Residents of the Slopes will need to access/egress the community using the northern access gate at 17 Avenue S.W.

Background

The lease for the Slopes private gate within the Transportation Utility Corridor was terminated by Alberta Infrastructure on December 31, 2019. The Slopes Community Association was provided with advanced notice of this termination and several alternative access locations were considered, but none was found to be feasible.

The Slopes Community Association may pursue a development permit application with The City of Calgary to install a new private gate within the community, and apply to obtain the relevant provincial approvals (should The City approve the development permit).
