Excavation for Drainage South of the Bow River
A borrow pit, also known as a sand box, is an area where material (usually soil, gravel or sand) has been dug for use at another location.

North bridge abutment
Abutments generally serve three purposes:
- Support the bridge superstructure
- Retain the road embankment
- Support the end of the approach pavement
Last Thursday night, four pre-cast concrete girders were installed on the south span of the new ramp bridge from southbound Stoney Trail to eastbound Trans-Canada Highway.

Controlling water infiltration and providing adequate drainage is critical to the performance of retaining walls and abutments. A trench directly behind the west abutment is lined with filter fabric and filled with porous backfill to support proper drainage.

Proof rolling is a process where a heavy vehicle is driven over a designated area of compacted soil to check for soft, yielding, unstable, loose, wet or otherwise unsuitable foundation conditions.

Detour on Old Banff Coach Road S.W. for Utility Work
From late June to mid-July, there will be a detour on Old Banff Coach Road, east of 101 Street S.W., to accommodate relocating a City of Calgary potable water feedermain. The detour will affect traffic in both directions and the speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h through the area.
