What’s Happening in Traffic

Traffic pattern changes on Highway 8

In the coming weeks, there will be a series of minor traffic pattern changes on Highway 8 near 69 Street S.W., to shift traffic onto the new eastbound lanes.

Please expect minor delays, drive cautiously and obey on-site signage.

All work is weather dependent. Please check 511 Alberta and The City of Calgary’s traffic information map for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions. For all other project information, please visit westringroad.ca

We appreciate your patience during construction.

Fruitful Spring

This spring, work on the bridge has included pouring concrete crash barriers, installing guardrail and painting the exterior surface.

April 3, 2023 – orange tarp covers sections of concrete crash barrier curing
May 15, 2023 – formwork is installed around the rebar for the last sections of crash barrier along the sides of the bridge
May 29, 2023 – steel guardrails are installed on top of the barriers

Waterproofing tile has been placed on the entire length of the bridge deck as the precursor to paving. Once paving and other finishing works are complete, traffic will be shifted to the new bridge and rehabilitation work on the existing bridge will begin.

June 19, 2023 – waterproofing tile is installed on the deck and the small gap in the concrete barrier for the expansion joint (which allows the structure to shift with movement and temperature changes) is covered with a steel plate
