What’s Happening in Traffic

Temporary Traffic Signals and Pathway Detour at Crestmont Boulevard / 109 Street / 1 Avenue S.W. Intersection

Starting on Monday, May 29, 2023, temporary traffic signals will replace the three-way stop at the Crestmont Boulevard / 109 Street / 1 Avenue S.W. intersection for work on the pathway. A pathway detour will be in place.

Please expect minor delays.

All work is weather dependent. Please check 511 Alberta and The City of Calgary’s traffic information map for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions. For all other project information, please visit westringroad.ca

We appreciate your patience during construction.

Paving on Stoney Trail

The North project contractor has taken full advantage of the early hot weather and completed surface lift paving on much of the Stoney Trail interchange. Additional works to complete all paving continue.

Spreading Topsoil

Topsoil is being spread around the new footprint of the Stoney Trail interchange in advance of seeding.

Highway 8 Interchange

There is considerable activity at the Highway 8 interchange and road and bridge construction is in full swing.

Northbound Stoney Trail to Westbound Highway 8 Flyover Bridge Deck Forming

All 32 girders for the 225-metre flyover have been installed, and bridge deck formwork is underway.

Northbound Stoney Trail / Highway 8 Bridge Deck Surface Preparation

After a bridge deck is poured, it must be waterproofed before it is paved. However, waterproofing tiles don’t adhere well to the smooth concrete surface of a freshly poured deck. To create better conditions for sticking the waterproofing tiles, the deck surface is abrasively cleaned using either sandblasting or shotblasting.

Sandblasting uses compressed air to send a high-pressure stream of sand (or other abrasive material). Shotblasting involves shooting high-velocity steel balls at the concrete surface and vacuuming them up, along with any dust and debris.
