Possible Flooding and Pathway Closures
The City of Calgary has declared a State of Local Emergency due to heavy rainfall in the Calgary area. The public is urged to stay away from the rivers and low-lying pathways. The fast-moving water can cause erosion and quickly destabilize riverbanks. The current conditions indicate flooding in parks along the rivers is likely, which means low-lying pathways may become submerged.
The areas around the Bow River Bridge are at at-risk and expected to be the most impacted. The Bow River Pathway on the south side of the river is closed. Please do not access the pathway system in this area.
Alberta Transportation’s contractors are carefully monitoring water levels, pathway conditions and stormwater management around the project, as well as moving equipment to higher ground.
Please visit The City of Calgary’s Flood Information webpage and follow their social media accounts for the most up-to-date alerts and closures.
