Temporary Construction Crossing on Highway 8

Approximately 2,000 cubic metres of fill is needed to construct the eastbound Highway 8 lanes, south of the existing road. A temporary construction crossing will be in operation for approximately three days the week of November 15, 2021, for haul trucks to deliver material to this area. To minimize traffic impacts the signalized crossing will be controlled by on-site personnel and will only be activated when a construction vehicle is present.

The first major detour for Highway 8 will happen next spring when traffic is shifted to the eastbound lanes being constructed. This will shift traffic to the southernmost carriageway and open much of the area needed to construct the interchange. While this detour is expected to significantly reduce traffic disruptions overall, numerous construction and detour stages will be required to construct the Highway 8 / Stoney Trail interchange and delays should be expected.

The soil conditions in this area are poor and the fill being placed this fall will require several months to settle. The crossing will be operational again in the spring to import the remaining materials needed to complete the roadwork.

Thank you for your patience during construction.
