Project Update – June 7, 2021

What’s Happening in Traffic This Week

Lane Closures on 101 Street S.W. and 17 Avenue S.W.

Today and tomorrow (June 7 and 8), between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., 17 Avenue S.W. will operate as a single lane of alternating traffic between Slopeview Drive S.W. and 93 Street S.W. for roadwork. Once the work on 17 Avenue S.W. is complete, crews will move to 101 Street S.W., north of 17 Avenue S.W., which will also be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic.

Eastbound Trans-Canada Highway Left Lane Closure

On June 8, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., there will be a left lane closure along eastbound Trans-Canada Highway at Stoney Trail for material delivery. Delays are expected during this time.

Canada Olympic Drive S.W. Closed

On June 10, a section of Canada Olympic Drive S.W. will close for utility work until late summer. Access to all facilities and the internal roads will be provided through the east parking lot entrance.

Trans-Canada Highway Reduced to One Lane Overnight

On June 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the Trans-Canada Highway will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at the Stoney Trail interchange to move equipment. Delays are expected.

17 Avenue S.W. / Township Road 242 Single Lane Alternating Traffic

On June 10, 11 and 14, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., 17 Avenue S.W. / Township Road 242 will operate as a single lane of alternating traffic between 101 Street S.W. and Lower Springbank Road S.W. ENMAX will be decommissioning an overhead distribution line. Flaggers will be on site directing traffic.

All work is weather dependent. Please check 511 Alberta and The City of Calgary’s traffic information map  for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions.

Storm Line Construction

Last week work on the crossover – which is a fancy way of saying paved median – was underway. Crossovers are used to allow traffic to move from one carriageway (i.e. westbound lanes) to another. Once the crossover is in place, westbound traffic will be shifted onto the eastbound lanes, and the westbound lanes will be closed west of Cougar Ridge Drive S.W. to accommodate storm line construction on the north side of the road.

Bridge Construction

A little further west, bridge construction is ongoing.
