Project Update – November 30, 2020
What’s Happening in Traffic This Week
New Exit Ramps
Please slow down through this area and be patient while drivers adapt to the new exits.

Crestmont Boulevard S.W.
Single lane alternating traffic is still in effect along Crestmont Boulevard S.W. as crews continue to work in the area. Old Banff Coach Road S.W. can be used as an alternative route if you want to avoid this lane closure.
Crews get ready to drill soil nails to stabilize the steep slope along the south side of the re-aligned Crestmont Boulevard S.W. Still ‘plugging’ away at the soil nail wall along the re-aligned Crestmont Boulevard S.W.
Westbound Trans-Canada Highway
Periodic right lane closures may be needed this week on westbound Trans-Canada Highway west of Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. Work on the embankment road for the westbound Trans-Canada detour lanes is nearing completion.
The right lane on westbound Trans-Canada Highway has been closed while work on the detour road – pictured on the right – is ongoing
The next stage of detouring will shift the westbound Trans-Canada lanes north to the new bridges over Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W.

All work is weather dependent. Please check 511 Alberta and The City of Calgary’s traffic information map for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions.
We appreciate your patience during construction.

Controlled Blasting Finished Until 2021
Controlled blasting on the Paskapoo Slope will resume in Spring 2021 for about two months.

24-Hour Work East of Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. Interchange
With the new bridge and exit ramps open, the final piece of roadwork needed to shift westbound Trans-Canada Highway traffic north onto a detour can begin. Working continuouslyfor a short time will reduce the overall duration of the work, as well as reduce the traffic delays caused by trucks hauling material through the roundabout exclusively in daytime hours.
The next phase of construction will shift westbound Trans-Canada Highway traffic onto a detour using the new permanent and temporary bridges at Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W.
Piling for Bridge #2 on Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W. Interchange
Looking northwest at piling on the west abutment; the temporary and permanent bridges constructed earlier this year can be seen in the background Looking north at piling on the west and east abutments
Stoney Trail / Trans-Canada Highway Interchange
Installing rebar for the west abutment seat (the concrete ledge where the bridge girders will sit) Installing rebar for the west abutment seat (the trimmed piles are visible under the rebar) Pouring concrete for the east abutment seat
With thousands of metres of rebar installed on the bridge deck, a truss screed is set up in preparation for pouring the concrete Truss screeds (like the yellow one in the photo) have an attachment that moves back and forth to smooth and level the wet concrete

Earthworks for Bow Trail S.W. Interchange
As work for the South portion of the project slows down for the winter, crews are wrapping up earthworks in the Springbank ravine.
Filling and compacting dirt at the far west end of the ravine A dump truck unloads the soil aggregate mixture and a bulldozer spreads it over the geotextile fabric
Setting up Site Offices
The future home base for the South project team – the owner, the owner’s engineer and the contractor – is starting to come together.
Sidewalk forms are partially filled with concrete in front of the site trailers
