Project Update – June 8, 2020

Collector-Distributor Ramp Lanes between Crowchild Trail and Scenic Acres Link NW

Collector-distributor (CD) lanes are separate, parallel roads with limited access to and from the freeway. The purpose of CD lanes is to eliminate weaving from the freeway by shifting the lane changes to the CD lanes instead.

New Pathway Alignment Open

The new Bow River pathway alignment opened last week. Once all the permanent handrails have been installed, the pathway will be paved.

North Project

Trans-Canada Highway / Valley Ridge Blvd NW Interchange

Valley Ridge Blvd NW Detour

With the opening of the first detour stage and more people returning to work as COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed, we understand there has been congestion getting into the community. Alberta Transportation and EllisDon will continue to monitor traffic patterns and make adjustments to minimize delays.

Still, motorists should expect delays and check 511 Alberta for up-to-date information about lane closures. The construction season in Alberta is short and there is a significant amount of work to be completed over the next few months. Thank you for your patience.

Trans-Canada Highway Bridges Over Valley Ridge Blvd NW

Work continues on the first of three bridges needed for the new interchange.

Utility Work West of Valley Ridge Blvd NW

There are a number of utility relocations required for the project. For the last several weeks, AltaLink’s crews have been working on the south side of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Time Change for Controlled Blasting

Beginning on Friday, June 12, all controlled blasts will occur between 5 pm and 7 pm, rather than 3 pm to 5 pm. This is to accommodate other crews in the area that are working later with the longer daylight. For more information on controlled blasting, visit westringroad.ca > Controlled Blasting.
