Spring 2022 Construction Update
Thank you for sending your questions and concerns and watching the video updates. From May 1 to 15, 2022, we received 50 comment forms and the North and South project videos were viewed more than 650 times combined. People that submitted specific questions will receive email responses from the project team.
While the formal comment period has concluded, you can always get in touch with the team by email or telephone. Contact information is on the Staying Informed page.
All work is weather dependant. Please check 511 Alberta and The City of Calgary’s traffic information map for up-to-date information on traffic detours and speed reductions.
We appreciate your patience during construction.
A New POV
Here are some photos of the bridge construction near the Bow River – a point of view we don’t see as often.
Stoney Trail / Trans-Canada Highway Interchange
With all the additional bridges to add full movements at the Stoney Trail / Trans-Canada Highway interchange, several retaining walls are required. At the east limit of the project, there are two retaining walls to accommodate the basketweave bridge for traffic getting on or off eastbound Trans-Canada Highway.
Overnight Work for Highway 8 Bridge Deck Pour
The first bridge deck on the Highway 8 / Stoney Trail interchange will be poured overnight tonight. Pouring the concrete bridge deck will involve concrete trucks accessing the site, pumps, cranes and directional lighting.
Minimal disruption is anticipated for adjacent residents; however, additional noise should be expected because of the number of trucks and crew members required for the operation.
This bridge deck will be poured in two stages, with the second overnight pour anticipated for the week of May 23, 2022.
